Getting ready for the holidays…

Hi everyone! The holidays are here, and families will be gathering, maybe even at your place. It’s time to make a little room by selling all of your extra stuff on OfferUp! Why scurry to find a corner to stick that random, not-quite-used-often-enough chair in, when you can sell it and not have to move it again?

OfferUp is also a great place to find fun holiday decor or beautiful furniture pieces to accent your home.

If you’ve got kids, another thing to think about is the inevitable influx of new toys that roll in about this time of year. Consider getting rid of the old to make room for the new; one rule I like to use is, if my kids haven’t played with a toy in the last 6 months, maybe it’s time for it to go. You can make a little bit of cash to use towards your holiday spending and declutter at the same time.

Don’t forget to check out the selection of new and like new toys being posted by community members, it’s sure to help you save a few dollars over even the best post-Thanksgiving sales! You can browse toys near you here: Toys & Games

Happy shopping everyone!

Until next time,

Getting to know us: Nick Huzar, OfferUp Co-Founder and CEO

Nick and his daughter Ava on a recent outing to the pumpkin patch

Hi everyone! A little while back, you had the chance to learn a little more about our Chief Technology Officer, Arean van Veelen. This week, we chat with Co-Founder and CEO Nick Huzar.

What do you like best about OfferUp?

I find the ability to “snap and sell” something fascinating. I think being able to see something in front of you and take a picture of it and put it up for sale is exciting.

What is the coolest thing you’ve bought through OfferUp?

I like the artwork that we’ve purchased for the office. With the exception of our desks, pretty much everything in our office is being bought through OfferUp. I have the vision that one day our entire office will be furnished through OfferUp!

How much have you sold through OfferUp?

Almost $7000, but we are clearing some space in our house for our second child (on the way), so I anticipate a lot more in the coming months.

If you had a super power, what would it be?

Flying. I dream about flying a lot.

What is one tip you would like to share with our community?

“Photos are everything.” Take a photo with proper staging and proper lighting, it will increase your odds of selling!

Thanks Nick!

Until next time,

Meet Jaime!

This week, meet another member of our team, Jaime!

Jaime is an iOS developer and will be working on maintaining existing features and adding new features to the OfferUp app for the iPhone and iPad.

When asked why he wanted to join the OfferUp team, Jaime said that he thought it would be a great opportunity to work with some cool people on something that will help make it easier for individuals to buy and sell their stuff.

Welcome Jaime, happy to have you as part of the team!

Until next time,

Here we grow again!

Okay, so I went there with the cliché title, but it’s true! The OfferUp community is growing, and we’ve added some new faces to our staff to help us keep up with the changes. This week, we welcome a new VP of Marketing, Ian Fliflet, who brings us his expertise in business strategy and execution.

We asked Ian to answer a couple of quick questions for us:

Why did you want to join the OfferUp team?

I joined OfferUp to be a part of a team making something that will be used by millions of people, making their lives better! I was really excited see the team’s passion for their users, which to me, is key to growing a great business.

What is your role here and what do you work on?

I work on growing the number of people who are enjoying OfferUp, as well as understanding how people are using the product today so we can make it even better.

We have also brought in some much needed help to our Technology and Development team, including Jason Foote, Beau Hargis, and Jaime Lopez—you’ll get to meet them in the coming weeks.

You will soon be able to see the impact of our new team members as we add more features and enhance existing options to the OfferUp app and website. As always, we continue to welcome your suggestions and feedback on how we can improve OfferUp, so please feel free to contact us at

Until next time,

To Post or Not to Post…

Hi everyone! Many questions have come in about what types of items we allow on OfferUp, and which postings we discourage. To help you with posting, here is a brief rundown of the types of items we do not allow:

- Weapons and weapons related items, including firearms, knives, swords, bows, ammunition, and accessories

Meet Sandra, a Super Seller with some beautifully refinished furniture pieces

A small sampling of Sandra’s great work

In the past few months, we have seen some wonderful items created and posted by our community members. This week, we are featuring one of our sellers, Sandra, and her beautifully refinished and repurposed items that are very popular with the other community members on OfferUp. I had a chance to talk with her about how she got started and her experience with OfferUp.

What inspired you to start refinishing furniture?
My boyfriend and I moved into a house, and we needed furniture without spending a lot of money, so we started going to thrift stores and found pieces that we thought we could make pretty. We taught ourselves to refinish through watching YouTube videos and a lot of trial-and-error. We started out trying latex paint but didn’t really like the result, so now we really like using wax and chalk paint on our pieces.

What is your favorite piece that you’ve completed so far?
We refinished a white entry/sofa table that I really liked.

What do you like most about OfferUp?
The messaging is so instant! I like it better than the back-and-forth messaging on other sites; it’s nice to be able to have constant contact, especially with meetups, and I feel like people are more likely to follow through after inquiring.

You can see all of Sandra’s items being offered for sale under her profile here: Sandra’s Profile

Until next time, be sure to check out some of the great items posted through our app or find out more at!
